  • Overview

    A certified medical assistant for Lakeside Medical, a division of C.R. England, will work closely with on-site medical staff to provide quality medical care and drug screen collections for employees and their dependents. Drug screens and other medical screening provided for drivers in accordance with the Department of Transportation regulations.


    Medical Assistants may be a part- or full-time position depending on location. This position will be located in clinics at headquarters and other locations around the country. Needs and specific tasks may change depending on location and number of patients.

    • Deal with multiple customers at once
    • Record vital signs in compliance with DOT requirements
    • Handle urgent situations in a professional manner.
    • Ability to multi-task and maintain positive working relationship
    • This job is highly demanding and requires patience and professionalism.
    • Collect DOT-certified urine and hair follicle collections per certification standards
    • Data entry in the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners website
    • Manage inventory and assisting with supply records
    • Reception of incoming patients

    Essential job requirements may include, but not be limited to:

    • Maintain accurate patient medical records
    • Work in compliance with DOT and appropriate state regulations
    • Able and willing to assist drivers by answering questions, providing care, etc., to try and aid them in being able to drive safely
    • Practice and observe safety rules and regulations and encourage others to do so at all times.
    • Always conduct yourself in a manner that reflects a positive, professional image. Must maintain a professional appearance in accordance with dress code policies.
    • Treat each individual with care, dignity, fairness, respect and recognition.

    Job qualifications may include, but not be limited to:

    • Ability to work with office equipment, utilizing computers for majority of tasks and must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite of programs.
    • High level of motivation and ability to provide exceptional customer service in a high-volume environment
    • Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
    • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills


    Physical Requirements:

    •  Capable of hearing, with our without correction, sufficiently to perceive normal speaking levels and receive detailed information through oral communication in order to facilitate meetings and work with internal customers and stakeholders by telephone and in person.
    • Position may involve kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 35 pounds.
    • Capable of working extended hours, to include holidays and various shifts (to include evening and night shifts) as necessary.
    • Capable of sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and working with computer equipment.
    • Capable of speaking, writing, and reading English well and possessing a good command of the language so that various types of communications may be conducted in English with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
    • Capable of visual acuity, with or without correction, sufficient to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer terminal, and read extensively.

    Education and Experience:


    • Medical Assistant certification (recent grads acceptable) with high school diploma or GED
    • Transportation industry experience helpful
    • DOT regulated Urine drug screen and hair follicle certification and collection experience
    • Gain a broad understanding of transportation processes and standards.
    • Experience in occupational medicine or urgent care environment
    • Experience with electronic mediccal records 

    Working Environment and Conditions:    


    • Must have the ability to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and/or delays.
    • Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances.
    • Must be able to handle incoming requests for assistance via phone and in person while working on other tasks.
    • Must remain professional in light of challenging situations that may occur in the location.
    • Light travel by car may be required if going between locations.
