    The main objective of this position is to manage drivers and carriers who transport shipments, carrier communication, problem resolution and order management.

    Position Summary

     

    In this position you have the opportunity to work in the operations space with one of the largest, most stable, still growing company in the logistics and transportation field.

     

    *Starting salary: $50K-52K plus bonus potential 

    Responsibilities

    This position requires working with driver and drayage shipments, managing relationships with draymen and rail yards, and the ability to multi-task under the pressure of customer expectations. It will include the management of drivers, their schedules and performance management

    • Work as a Driver Manager or Planner as necessary
    • This job is highly demanding and requires patience and professionalism. It requires adaptability in an environment that can change quickly and requires on-the-spot decision making

     

    Essential job requirements may include, but not be limited to:

     

    • Daily management and coordination of shipments with drivers and carriers
    • Establish and coordinate the schedule with carriers and bidding submissions
    • Source carriers and negotiate rates on behalf of the company
    • Track all shipments and cargo status
    • Proactively identify problems and quickly implement solutions
    • Responsible for the containment of shipping costs
    • Manage relationship with the carrier
    • Responsible for planning and assigning loads in accordance with federal safety regulations such as hours of service, taking into account geographical and equipment limitations, as well as maximization of driver performance
    • Plan and dispatch all incoming and outgoing loads for an assigned geographic territory to maximize market savings and driver efficiency while meeting customer service requirements
    • Recover loads when necessary due to delays, equipment failures or problems with railroads. Works with management and network optimization teams to maximize equipment utilization and driver productivity
    • Responsible for complying with established metrics, including charged miles, driver utilization, driver and customer retention, service, safety and cost per load
    • Keep company leadership informed of project priorities and any issues that may require their attention
    • Work with other department leaders to establish goals, align priorities and define departmental processes
    • Practice and observe safety rules and regulations and encourage others to do so at all times

    Qualifications

    Job qualifications may include, but not be limited to:

     

    • Ability to work with office equipment, utilizing computers for majority of tasks and must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite of programs
    • Ability to work through pending problems to resolution or effectively communicated for future resolution.
    • Proficiency writing, reading and speaking English needed. Bilingual in Spanish helpful

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Capable of hearing, with our without correction, sufficiently to perceive normal speaking levels and receive detailed information through oral communication in order to facilitate meetings and work with internal customers and stakeholders by telephone and in person
    • Position may involve kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 pounds
    • Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends, holidays and various shifts (to include evening and night shifts) as necessary
    • Capable of sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and working with computer equipment
    • Capable of speaking, writing, and reading English well and possessing a good command of the language so that various types of communications may be conducted in English with people of various levels of education and capabilities
    • Capable of visual acuity, with or without correction, sufficient to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer terminal, and read extensively

     

    Education and Experience:

               

    • Bachelor’s degree in a specified field or business-related field strongly preferred or a combination of education and commensurate work-related experience
    • Previous transportation or logistics or railroad industry experience strongly preferred
    • Excellent organizational skills required
    • Accuracy and attention to detail

     

    Working Environment and Conditions:    

    • Must have the ability to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and/or delays
    • Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances
    • Must be able to handle incoming requests for assistance via phone and in person while working on other tasks
    • Must remain professional in light of challenging situations that may occur in the location
